Underlying KNK’s various activities are the precepts stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1989 – namely, the importance of protecting basic rights for all children in the world to receive education, to enjoy leisure, to embrace future dreams, and to establish themselves.
KNK has been supporting children who are living under the severest of living conditions among underprivileged youths as well as those in their late teens who rarely receive support from anyone. These distinct features of KNK’s activities received funding from the Postal Savings for International Voluntary Aid Program for 5 years from July 2001 to June 2006, for some of the components of the evaluation target project, “Protective Support for Youths in Metro Manila, the Philippines.”
The association also received grant assistance from Japan Post from July 2003 to June 2003 for other components of the project. In addition, private foundations and enterprises, international NGOs, as well as individuals have supported the project.
From 2007 to April 2009, KNK Philippines received funding from UNICEF Philippines on the Literacy Education and Life Improvement Program for Children and Youth in Urban poor areas in Metro Manila. AJINOMOTO International Cooperation, funded the Nutrition and Health Support

Program for children in Payatas attending Alternative Learning System (ALS), targeting children and youth scavenger at the dump site. While YOKOHAMA-Philippines funded the psycho-social intervention provided to children and youth traumatized by the Typhoon “Ondoy.”
Snacks were provided by Asian Development Bank – Staff Community Fund (ADB-SCF) to children and youth working at the dumpsite in order for them to attend the ALS sessions. In year 2006 to 2007 TERRES DES HOMMES – Netherland (TdH) funded the community organizing activities in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
In 2008, ITOCHU Corporation, a Japanese Corporation based in Tokyo donated a house and lot which is now called “House for Youth” for children at risk and children in conflict with the law (CICL).
In 2009, emergency relief assistance response was the first time for KNK Philippines to be involved because it affected our areas of operation and most of our beneficiaries were living along side of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City and Payatas, Quezon City. Relief assistance to the victims and provision of educational materials. The fund assistance came from Japan Platform Foundation (JPF).
It was in the year 2013 that Itochu Corporation funded the renovation of the ground floor of the “House for Youth” to expand the area to be used for Vocational Training Project (VTP). This area is to be used for the sewing and lecture room and Income Generating Activity (IGA) is conducted.
Late November 2013, a Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) struck Visayas Region where two of the badly hit provinces of the regions, were Samar and Leyte. KNK Philippines immediately conducted an exploratory mission in Region VIII to determine the extend of the damages. By December 2013 KNK Japan Relief Assistance to the Philippines was funded by Japan Platform to utilize emergency relief assistance for 7 months.
With the experiences, training and strong team work of the staff difficult tasks were handled and implemented collectively, effectively, and successfully.
Since its foundation, KNK Philippines has risen up to the challenge of helping children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children at risk (street children) believing that they can be responsible and productive members of the society.
